There’s a large number of factors when it comes to the cost of having a wood floor fitted including floor type, size & style, installation method and more. Fitters will also charge either a fixed day rate or per square metre. Because of this, it’s hard for us to say for sure, however to give you a rough indication…

Day Rate: £175 – £250 per day
Square Metre Rate: £35 – £60

Does parquet flooring cost more to install?

Yes, parquet flooring will almost always cost more than plank be it herringbone, chevron or some other pattern. This is because the skills required are far higher and the time it takes to install is also much longer. For parquet installations we highly recommend a professional floor fitter with prior experience installing parquet. Plank flooring is that bit easier, so provided instructions are followed other tradesmen would be able to complete the installation without issues. But parquet can very easily trip an inexperienced fitter up.

How many quotes should I get?

We recommend getting two or three full quotations which include a site visit to measure up. Most fitters will do a no obligation visit like this for free and produce a written quotation. The purpose of this is to ensure that all the quotes you have received are in a similar ball park (particularly when it comes to estimated time to completion). We would never recommend choosing a fitter purely based on price.

Can I install hardwood floors myself?

Yes, provided you are a competent DIYer and familiar with the safe usage of power tools you can fit the flooring yourself. It's very important however that all manufacturer instructions are followed, so please check these before purchase to ensure you are able to carry out all the required steps.

Should I sign a contract?

Yes. Always sign a contract with your fitter. Even if they don't have anything in place, we'd recommend getting something drawn up for them to sign.
